20 December 2018 at the meeting of the Supervisory Council and Board of Trustees of the University held the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of agriculture of Russia and MGIMO on the creation and development of the basic chair of "International agricultural markets and foreign trade activities in the agro-industrial complex".

The Department has included in the structure School of business and international competences of the University. The objectives of the Department include preparation of high level specialists able to effectively represent the interests of Russia on the world agricultural markets. With this goal, the Department opened three directions: the program of professional retraining "Attaché for agriculture," MBA program "World agricultural markets and foreign economic activity of the agricultural companies" as well as Russia's first master's program for training specialists in the sphere
